About the Club:
High Cross Field Archers was started in 2007 by members of Deerpark Archers, which is a nearby Grand National Archery Society target club. Both clubs had use of land at High Cross Farm and together have built an impressive course adaptable for both National Field Archery Society [NFAS] and GNAS field shooting. Deer Park Archers pulled out of High Cross in 2009 and so the site is currently exclusive to NFAS.
In 2008 & 2009 High Cross FAC hosted two main NFAS Open archery events each year. In May and October.
Currently [2010] we meet as a club on the first Saturday in the month for practice purposes; if members wish this frequency can be increased. We also meet when required to perform maintenance on the course. During the winter of 2009/10 we are limited to practice in the wood as cattle are on the main course.
The club welcomes inquiries about membership from existing NFAS members, but we currently do not have a training facilities for novice archers. Our membership year runs from April to April in line with NFAS membership requirments. Membership is free [2010] although there is a £10 joining fee. Additional shoot day fees of £3 will apply to members.
Persons wishing to learn basic archery skills may contact a local target archery club who should be able to offer you a comprehensive beginners course. This will give you the chance to experience the basics of archery. It will also give you an understanding of the disciplines required for the various styles of shooting. You may then venture out and kit yourself out in the style you wish to shoot.
New members of High Cross are enroled as provisional members. We then insist you join and agree to NFAS regulations which allows you to shoot with us under NFAS insurance and rules. As soon as we are of the opinion that you are competent and safe, club officers may sign you off as a full NFAS member, this allows you to attend Open NFAS shoots country wide.
Some members regularly attend NFAS shoots at other clubs and National competitions. We try to arrange car sharing as much as possible to help with costs and cut down on fuel use. To find out what shoots are on, follow the link http://www.nfas.net/shootdates.asp . Further advice and many tips can be gained from current members, some of whom make traditional equipment.
